Let’s Come Together on April 4th, Arizona Gives Day, To Support The Junior League of Phoenix Foundation!

Today, April 4th, we celebrate Arizona Gives Day with thousands of nonprofits from all over the state.

Arizonans like YOU can unite and support their favorite nonprofit(s) for exactly 24 hours of virtual giving. This day of fundraising is a community-led effort to invest in our state.

This year, thanks to a private donor, the Junior League of Phoenix Foundation will receive an additional $20 for each donation made on April 4th! Over the past 12 years, the Foundation has fostered and sustained the mission and community impact of the Junior League of Phoenix through stewardship of financial resources. “Investing in our local nonprofits is vital for our community. The JLP Rummage Sale is 2 Days Away!

 

Our 80th Annual Rummage Sale is 2 Days Away!  The Rummage Sale is JLP’s largest fundraiser, which attracted more than 3,200 shoppers and raised nearly $103,000 in 2016. JLP’s members donate and collect all sale items throughout the year and contribute more than 1,800 volunteer hours to make the event possible. Over its 80-year history, the Rummage Sale is a much-anticipated community event that has contributed to JLP’s legacy of impact in the Phoenix area. When: February 25, 2017 I 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Where: Arizona State Fairgrounds Cost: $5 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and FREE from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Additionally, thanks to the generous support of Fry’s Food Stores and the Desert Cancer Foundation, 40 FREE mammograms will also be provided for uninsured or underinsured women. Appointments will be available starting at 8 a.m. and will be held at the mobile mammography unit near the entrance to the sale. Today is the Last Day to Purchase Your Pre-Sale Party Tickets! Check out this great AZ Central article by Donna Reiner featuring the history of the Junior League of Phoenix Rummage Sale!

Everyone loves a bargain, and those bargains are certainly worth the wait. One year, the eager ladies required a police escort in and out of the sale hall. That may seem strange, but one of these ladies became the proud owner of an Edith Small suit for $2, and it normally sold for $200.

Small’s designs were exquisite and ever-so-popular at the time; it’s no wonder that the Junior League wanted to make sure no fights broke out over this one treasured item.

While many of you may have attended this huge rummage sale over the years, for those who didn’t, try to picture what it must have been like the year a Shetland Pony was being sold as “rummage.” Another year, the sale included a car auction. The eclectic offerings never seem to amaze those regular attendees.
