The Junior League of Phoenix gives women these opportunities in a fun team-oriented effort. Our members also enjoy year round volunteer opportunities, engage in leadership training and make friendships that last a lifetime.

combo_stacked_centered_webThe Junior League of Phoenix (JLP) empowers women through leadership training and development to take action in their community. Our members are leaders in the community and involved in hands-on opportunities to positively impact & better Phoenix – currently we are impacting Phoenix by:

    • Empowering youth to adopt healthy habits and reverse the growth of childhood obesity in Maricopa County through our Kids in the Kitchen program.
    • Developing the math and science skills of pre-kindergarten children by way of our R.O.C.K.E.T.S. program (Raising Our Children’s Knowledge by Educating Through Science)
    • Bringing affordable fresh fruits and vegetables and providing community health resources to the residents of downtown Phoenix and Tempe as a founding partner of the Fresh Express by Discovery Triangle mobile market
    • Offering health and wellness programming and other child-focused events and activities through partnerships with the Phoenix Rescue Mission Changing Lives Center and the Phoenix Day Health Links program.

Who is Eligible?

Total membership in The Junior League of Phoenix exceeds 1,100. Membership is open to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism. Over 100 women are accepted into the Provisional new member group each Spring.

A prospective member must be a woman with an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service, and an interest in developing her potential for voluntary community participation.

Prospective members must be at least 22 years of age. There is no maximum age.

How to Join

The Junior League of Phoenix welcomes new members in the late spring. Each woman is required to attend one of the Information Sessions held March-May to be considered for Provisional membership. Once accepted into the Junior League of Phoenix, the Provisional new member course provides education, training about the structure of The Junior League of Phoenix and our role in the community. Provisional members also have the opportunity to participate in “hands-on” activities, fundraising events and numerous social activities throughout the year. Successful completion of the Provisional new member course prepares Provisional Members for Active membership in one of the many Junior League committees.

Available Information Sessions

It is required for all potential members to attend an information session. At this session, you will meet active members, get an overview of the provisional program and required components, and receive an application. Sign up for one of our twelve info sessions, many of which are graciously hosted in the homes of our members.

CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo: Rachel Egboro, The Storyline Collective and The Whole Story

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Community Leadership and Outreach Committee will be hosting the first ever Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo. The purpose of the Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo is to provide training for ladies that are interested in pursuing roles in community leadership and to create opportunities for them to practice those skills.

Rachel EgboroAmong the fabulous presenters that will be featured at the Community Leadership Summit is Rachel Egboro, whose passion for the community has inspired her to create spaces for others to find their voice through storytelling. For the past four years, Rachel worked as a Community Outreach Coordinator at First Things First. In this role, she has raised awareness about the importance of early childhood development and education. Rachel is excited to continue raising support for the next generation of Arizonans in her new role as the Strategic Partnerships and Development Manager.

Rachel is also the brains behind a new storytelling event called The Whole Story.  Rachel isn’t new to the Phoenix storytelling scene as she’s co-produced live events with The Storyline. However, The Whole Story is Rachel’s response to the events that have occurred over the past couple of years. She saw a need to create a space where every day experiences of black people in Arizona could be told.  The show debuted to a sold-out crowd and coincided with the final weekend of the groundbreaking Kehinde Wiley exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum. Rachel hopes that The Whole Story will provide an opportunity for the community to come together and will inspire conversations for the future.

Speaking of the future, Rachel is hosting a series of workshops called Telling The Whole Story for people of all ages who are interested in telling their story on stage. Rachel is passionate about intergenerational sharing because she believes wisdom comes from both the wealth of experience of older generations and the innocent curiosity of younger generations.

CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo: Rebecca Clyde, Ideas Collide

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Community Leadership and Outreach Committee will be hosting the first ever Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo. The purpose of the Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo is to provide training for the ladies that are interested in pursuing roles in community leadership and to create opportunities for them to practice those skills.

Rebecca ClydeAmong our fabulous presenters will be featured Rebecca Clyde of Ideas Collide. Rebecca is the CXO of Ideas Collide and founder of an early stage chatbot startup, Botco.ai. She leads Ideas Collide’s technology industry practice, innovation and marketing automation strategies. Prior to founding Ideas Collide, Rebecca was responsible for managing Intel’s embedded brand. During her time at Intel, she launched more than 50 Intel products, managed campaigns across multiple media channels and developed a public relations program that garnered unprecedented media coverage for Intel’s embedded technologies. Rebecca has been recognized on the “35 Entrepreneurs 35 and Younger” list published by The Arizona Republic and is a recipient of Arizona Governor’s Mentorship Award. She was recently recognized as the 2016 ATHENA Businesswoman of the Year in the private sector by the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. A native Spanish speaker, Rebecca was born in Costa Rica and spent her formative years in Chile, Argentina and Paraguay. She holds an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and a B.A. in communications from Brigham Young University.

CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo: Jennifer Carusetta, Health System Alliance of Arizona

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Community Leadership and Outreach Committee will be hosting the first ever Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo. The purpose of the Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo is to provide training for ladies that are interested in pursuing roles in community leadership and to create opportunities for them to practice those skills.

jennifer 1Among the fabulous presenters that will be featured at the Community Leadership Summit is the JLP’s very own Jennifer Carusetta, Executive Director of Health System Alliance of Arizona. Jennifer has worked in public policy and legislative affairs in the State of Arizona for nearly two decades. Jennifer joined the Alliance in 2015 as the organization’s first Executive Director.  In this role, Jennifer is responsible for the oversight of all Alliance operations; the cultivation of partnerships with Arizona policymakers, business leaders and community stakeholders; in addition to the establishment and advancement of the Alliance’s policy and legislative agendas.

Prior to joining the Alliance, Jennifer served as the Chief Legislative Liaison at the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), where she oversaw the advancement of the State Medicaid Agency’s legislative agenda, and acted as liaison between AHCCCS, the Governor’s Office, the Legislature and other government agencies.

Jennifer has worked in Government Relations for the Arizona Department of Transportation, and served in the administrations of both Governors Hull and Napolitano.

Jennifer is a Flinn-Brown Fellow who proudly received her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona and her Master’s in Public Administration from Arizona State University. In her spare time, Jennifer is a part-time instructor in Northern Arizona University’s Extended Campus Public Administration Program, and is active in Junior League of Phoenix and other community activities.

NaomiNaomi Chavez Peters, a noted leadership development, talent development and communications leader, will be presenting to the Junior League of Phoenix in a special leadership leaguewide training event!

What Great Leaders Do – Whether you’re the head of an organization or just getting your bearings as a new member, Naomi’s presentation will inspire and inform on the universal traits of all great leaders. Spoiler alert: Everyone is a leader.

Naomi is the Founder and Principal of Great Leader Consulting, a leadership and talent development firm, which helps companies big and small, build Great Leaders. She’s held leadership roles at several successful high tech global firms such as Salesforce, as Head of Talent Develop­ment; Cisco Systems and Intel Corporation. Naomi is a member of the Junior League of Palo Alto/Mid Peninsula, where she is a Past President, and continues to advise the Membership Council. She is a consultant to the Association of Junior Leagues International, teaching the ODI Membership track, and regularly speaks to Leagues across the Association.

CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo: Sakura Considine and Lorena Garcia, Bloguettes

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Junior League of Phoenix Community Leadership and Outreach Committee will be hosting the first ever Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo. The purpose of the Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo is to provide training for ladies that are interested in pursuing roles in community leadership and to create opportunities for them to practice those skills.

Among the fabulous presenters that will be featured at the Community Leadership Summit are Lorena Garcia and Sakura Considine, the co-founders of Bloguettes. As entrepreneurs with experience in building and growing online communities and digital brands, the girls behind Bloguettes sought to share their knowledge, rather than keep it all to themselves. They created a collaborative community for bloggers, creatives and business owners in what we like to call the Entrepreneurial Age.

Several months of planning later, Bloguettes launched its first in-person 2-Day Branding Workshop in Scottsdale, Arizona. A group of 15 women from varied professional backgrounds came together to learn about branding, social media, photography, graphic design, and the value of building a business online. Since that first workshop, Bloguettes has grown their Workshop into a 3-Day model, and they have traveled to 11 different cities (and counting!), as well as expanded to offer additional “Mini” workshops on specialized topics, online courses, one-on-one consulting services, and so much more!

Lorena has an MBA in finance and has always been an entrepreneur at heart. She first realized her love for business and entrepreneurship while starting a real estate investment fund. She later discovered her passion for technology & the digital industry and left to pursue a career where she could combine all of her interests. In addition to being the co-founder of Bloguettes, Lorena handles her own fashion & lifestyle blog, Call Me Lore, and is also mommy to baby Diego. Among other responsibilities, she is head of strategy and business development at Bloguettes and aims to grow her companies to reach their full potential.

Sakura found her passion in graphic design, photography, and the Internet world at the age of twelve. She attended Arizona State University and majored in Business Marketing and Japanese. However, she realized her true interests were in blogging and marketing. Since college, Sakura co-founded The Sorority Secrets and is the current co-founder and creative brand director of Bloguettes. In her spare time, Sakura manages her own design & lifestyle blog, Something Sakura.

The Junior League of Phoenix Foundation Board of Directors is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join us as members of the Board to steward our mission. Ideally, Board candidates will have a desire to become involved in non-profit management, finance, grant funding, marketing and/or advocacy.  CLO Fireside Chat featuring Katherine Cecala

“Katherine is a woman who makes her community better, she is JLP.” – Eileen Sullivan, Junior League of Phoenix Sustainer

If one is looking for inspiration this new year, President of Junior Achievement of Arizona and Junior League of Phoenix sustaining member, Katherine Cecala, is a captivating choice for a role model. On December 7, 2016, a small group of current Junior League active members were privy to Katherine’s vast wisdom and experience via the inaugural Fireside Chat series hosted by the Community Leadership and Outreach (CLO) Committee.

Katherine provided an overview of her community leadership experience and how her JLP life has intersected with and contributed to her community work. In addition to a career in NPO leadership, she has served on over 35 boards as a volunteer and has developed a reputation as a “fixer” due to her ability to take on touchy situations and turn them into positive experiences for everyone through communication and compassion.  Katherine is bold and assertive but also incredibly patient. She shared advice with members about how to come alongside people to create change within organization. The techniques Katherine shared ranged from bringing up important points three times (as it research has shown it takes people that many times to take in certain messages) to implementing employee benefits that other organizations might consider excessive to create win-win scenarios that motivated people to prioritize the organization’s long term needs over personal interests.

Perhaps most meaningful about Katherine’s story was her honesty and humility in telling it. She talked pointedly about how failures and missteps and personal struggles have intersected with and helped form her professional and community pursuits.

The small group format allowed the attendees to ask questions throughout the “Fireside Chat” and engage with Katherine personally during the mingling time before and after the “Fireside Chat”.  Individuals asked questions about fundraising strategies, people management, and work/life balance.  Additionally, attendees had a chance to mingle with each other and to further develop their network within the JLP.

In the end, the CLO “Fireside Chat” with Katherine provided interested JLP members with an opportunity to learn from and interact meaningfully with an established community leader and to explore their interest and commitment to engaging with the Greater Phoenix community to generate meaningful and positive change for the benefit of all.

CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo

On Saturday, April 15, 2017, the Junior League of Phoenix Community Leadership and Outreach (CLO) Committee will be hosting the first ever JLP CLO Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo. The purpose of the Community Leadership Summit and Nonprofit Expo is to provide training for JLP members with community leadership training and to create opportunities for them to practice those skills. This is a full day event that will have two parts. First, the theme of the Community Leadership Summit this year is Personal Branding, because we want every JLP member to feel confident about sharing their skills with the broader Phoenix community. To train JLP members in personal branding, the following seminars will be offered:

  • Power of Gratitude: Your Perfect Thank You Note: Jennifer Carusetta, Executive Director Health System Alliance of Arizona
  • Your Personal Mission Statement: Rebecca Clyde, Ideas Collide CXO & Co-Founder
  • Your Personal Elevator Speech: Rachel Egboro, Co-Founder Phoenix Storyline Collective
  • Your Personal Resume: Jessica Gabry, External Relations and Development Director
  • The Basics: Your Personal Brand and Social Media: Sakura Considine and Lorena Garcia, Co-Founders Bloguettes
  • See and Be Seen: Social Engagement: Maura Goldsberry, Freelance Nonprofit Professional

In addition to the seminars, approximately thirty local nonprofit organizations will participate in the Expo. Each organization will have two opportunities within their organization that they would like to fill with a JLP member. The end goal is for each attendee to leave with a complete personal branding toolkit that is ready for immediate deployment and some practice deploying it.

CLO Fireside Chat featuring Cassidy Campana, Principal, AZ Strategies

On February 8, 2017, the Junior League of Phoenix Community Leadership and Outreach (CLO) Committee will be hosting a small-group, members-only speaker meeting featuring Cassidy Campana, Principal, AZ Strategies. This is the fourth event in an eight-part series of “fireside chats” where established community leaders are invited to share their wisdom and experiences with JLP members that are (or are interested in becoming) up and coming community leaders. The CLO speaker series has been generously funded by the Junior League of Phoenix Foundation to increase available training opportunities for JLP members.


About Cassidy

cassidyCassidy, a native of Scottsdale, Arizona, has worked in the Arizona market for more than 20 years as a public relations, marketing and political consultant. She has worked in numerous aspects of communications and message management including public relations, strategic planning, community engagement, and client services.

She currently works with a variety of companies and nonprofits including DMB, the ASU’s Lodestar Center, the Arizona Multihousing Association and others in a variety of capacities. For ASU, Cassidy is the program manager of the ASU Lodestar Center’s American Express Leadership Academy, a leadership development program for nonprofit executives.

She currently serves on the boards of the Mesa Arts Center Foundation and Charter 100.  Over the years, she has served as a board member for Valley Leadership, the Governor’s 9-11 Memorial Commission and the KAET Community Advisory Board.  A graduate of Valley Leadership Class XXV, she served as the chair for the Leadership Institute for a number of years.

Cassidy has earned the PRSA Copper Anvil Award of Excellence and she holds a bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University in Political Science.
